Instagram: Standing Stanzas

1. Poetry is a way to get creative in ways that help our visual and auditory imaginations shine. Not all writers or ghostwriters focus on poetry because poetry needs a different skill set compared to pose writing. I love all forms of poetry and the point of Standing Stanzas is to write short pieces of poetry that can be standalone poems (very short ones) or pieces of a longer poem that will be revealed when I have enough stanzas.

2. On this website, I write/offer seven different types of poems:

  • Haikus

  • Cinquains

  • Sonnets

  • Elegies

  • Free–verse

  • Odes

  • Pastorals

3. These Standing Stanza piece/s will focus on one style of poem per week (from the list in the previous slide), starting with Haikus. When a style has been chosen, I will add lines for each poem according to their length, and the final slide for that Standing Stanza will be a stanza or a complete poem like in the case of short poems like Haikus or Cinquains.

4. Single lines or two–three lines per stanza or poem will be released at a time.

5. Once the final line/two lines have been added to the poem, I will release the full poem and give a short story about the poem/line inspiration either on the day I completed the poem or the next day, depending on my schedule.

Each style of poem will have different numbers of lines, based on the length of the final poem. These line numbers include:

  • Haikus—One line per Standing Stanza post.

Final length of poem: Three lines

  • Cinquains—One line per Standing Stanza post.

Final length of poem: Five lines

  • Sonnets—Four to five lines per Standing Stanza post.

Final length of poem: Just under half an A4 page/14 lines

  • Elegies—Four to five lines per Standing Stanza post.

Final length of poem: Roughly half an A4 page/20 lines

  • Free–verse—Three to five lines per Standing Stanza post.

Final length of poem: Roughly half an A4 page/20 lines–a full A4 page/40 lines

  • Odes—Five to six lines per Standing Stanza post.

Final length of poem: Roughly half an A4 page/20 lines–two A4 pages/80 lines

  • Pastorals—Five to six lines per Standing Stanza post.

Final length of poem: Roughly half an A4 page/20 lines–three A4 pages/60 lines

And that's the Standing Stanzas! In the near future, I will offer a poll for my readers (and followers) to choose which line you think is best for the final line in any of the longer poems (elegies and onwards).

The final and completed poem can be found on the previous page. The time taken to complete it will depend on it's final length and longer poems may run for weeks!
